hehe in years of web development this is a first.  We’ve had to do some clean up and stream-lining but in terms of gathered statistics, prepare to have your socks knocked off.

btw can anyone recommend a good design firm?  I’d run a contest but would prefer to use someone tried & true this time.

We are currently storing a history of wowgold prices and variations.  We need to decide soon what to do with them as we have almost 60,000 different gold products and the prices are changing constantly.  This means we’re storing huge amounts of data! 

What kind of stats on prices would be most interesting to you?

Merchant price history?
Lowest Prices (Daily? Weekly? Monthly? All Time?)
Price per gold piece?
Realm Comparison (cheapest versus most expensive)

Please help me to build this site.

hehe and yes, I do realize the design of the site still sucks.  We’re getting quite a few comments to this effect It’s coming, it just hasn’t been the highest priority for us yet.  First and foremost we wanted to get the site functioning properly. 

Just a quick update that we’re now running the full 5 merchants w/out any hitches.  It’s been interesting to watch the prices because there is a LOT more variation than I expected.  I assumed the prices were going to be pretty static but merchants are shifting them around all the time.  Seems every time i look at the site something changes.

Thanks to everyone who’s sent their support and reports on bugs.  It’s most appreciated and since the bug reports have slowed, I assume we’re starting to iron them out

We’ve implemented 2 new merchants to the site, unfortunately this has broken the implementation with the other 3 to some extent and further the handoffs to the new sites is not functioning properly.  Will give it some time this weekend once more to see what’s going on.  

Perhaps this release would best have been titled alpha rather than beta

First I do want to say thanks for all the comments.  Some great ones, some hate ones, and many confused ones.  

What this site is about is Comparison.  

• We do not sell gold ourselves. 
• We help you to find the merchant you like best.
• We update constantly, 24/7, 365.  You can look at all merchant offerings in one place. 

Just saw the site front end is down again.  TK’s in melbourne next couple days and will get this fixed when he’s back.  Our updater went down last week due to a hosting issue and I guess we implemented the old version with the wrong URLS.

If you’re reading this, please do comment when you find something not working on the site.  Despite appearances, a lot of time and energy has gone into building this.  We’re currently on the backend updating continuously prices and tracking at the moment 3 merchants.  As a result we’ve got 10s of thousands of records that in time we’ll be able to help you make purchase decisions from.  

Such as best merchants, cheapest time of day, realm comparison, trends etc.

Anyway, my apologies for the road bumps, will be up and working again in a few days time.

I’m scratching my head a little thinking of how long it took to get this site released.  It started as a pet project that a few of us were playing around with in our spare time.  All the momentum dropped out after Robert who was lead on dev went MIA and didn’t want anything more to do with the site.  

Bad timing as we were at about 70% complete and his disappearance took the wind out of the project’s sails (noone wanted to dig through his code).  That said, fast forward about a year and we looked at things again.  10 million freaking wow players now??  That’s more than a lot of countries and well this project from the start has been fun…

Anyway, without getting ahead of ourselves, we’ve released a very rough version of the site.  There’s a few caveats to throw in there already:

1. We’re tech geeks & gamers.  Combining all our collective resources, we wouldn’t be able to design our way out of a wet paper bag.  i.e. at least in the foreseeable future this site is going to be UGLY.
2. We’re overworked w/ day jobs.  This beta release is sort of a way of saying to the gaming community “Is this cool & useful?”.  If it is we’ll roll in additional coolish features but scaled based upon the momentum of this site.  For example, we’re tracking the history of prices which could show patterns such as best time to buy, lows versus highs, trends, etc.
3. TK (aka admin) writes lousy blog posts.  :P  Taf rambles off more than he should.
4. We love feedback.  The more you can tell us (please use the contact page), the better we can make this site.

PS.  On merchant blog spam, please don’t do it.  We’ll release a V2.0 inclusion list in the near future, one of which will be the method for new merchants to apply to have their gold listed.  We still need some time to develop criterion for inclusion, right now I’m just happy to get this released.
